Project Overview

Early Sketch Iterations - Variations of Storage

Module Development

Shelf_Module_a1

: Module a1's
Back Hanging Rails

The rounded square shape of shelf modules was successful from the beginning. However, it was quickly recognized that the slotted method for hanging was difficult to line up on the support pins.

Shelf_Module_a2

: Module a2's
"Key" Hanging Slots

Change to "key" slots to "help" users place and align
Ended up being even more challenging not knowing the height for each of the slots

Early on, there was realization that the overall system for connecting the modules to the hanging rails could be reduced. The three part system, included shelf modules, hanging rails, and pin inserts to attach the modules. How could this be reduced to a two part system?

Shelf_Module_b1

: Module b1's Built-in Pins

Requiring the pins to be built into the modules makes the system a two part system!

As development continued, it was soon recognized that rounded pins worked well but were too large in diameter, and caused collision when placed next to other units! In order to resolve this collision, it was essential to make the pins flattened, to match with the module's edges.

Shelf_Module_b2

: Module b2's
'Flattened' Built-In Pins
